What is Bea Bond?

Bea Bond is a slow-fashion lifestyle brand born in Botswana. Our focus is on making beautiful products where design is at the core. We support traditional skills while making differentiated products, supporting local industries and communities Previous projects include collaborations with Oodi Weavers and Ngamiland basket weavers Trust.

Why submit your artwork to Bea Bond?

This opportunity is organised by Bea Bond in collaboration with ARC – Art Residency Centre Botswana. Every shortlisted and winning entry will be published on Bea Bond website, shared via our social media and via a newsletter.

The winner will receive a cash prize of 3,500 Pula for the copyright of their artwork, two runners up will receive 1,000 Pula and 500 Pula respectively.

ARC - Art Residency Centre Botswana will organise a workshop on copyright, and an exhibition of the best artworks and their sale at ARC in Gaborone, the details be shared in due course.

What’s needed to apply?

Email your art submissions to both arcbotswana@gmail.com and beabondworld@gmail.com.

All artist submissions must be sent via email as a photograph, JPEG or PDF (we recommend 3-4MB) with a photo of You the artist too!

We will then contact artists directly for high resolution digital files which can be sent via “wetransfer.com” (preferably 300dpi)

Include information on the background of the work and any facts or details you think are needed to fully explain your work.

The size of the final artwork should fit A2 (42.0 x 59.4cm)

All work will be judged on the following B.E.A criteria:

Beautiful & Unique: does it look amazing? We know that beauty is subjective but we will be looking out for an aesthetic that is timeless and unique.

Essence: Does it take inspiration from Botswana?

Application: Does it lend itself to being printed as a design on fabric as well as paper products? (*See the full listing under Copyright)

Who are the judges?

All entries will be received and judged in collaboration between the board of ARC - Art Residency Centre Botswana and the founders of Bea Bond.

The panel includes; Ann Gollifer, Visual Artist, Maipelo Gabang, Choreographer/dancer, Tumi Nkwe, Fashion, Tumi Sejoe, Film.

To select the shortlist, the panel of judges will apply the above criteria at their discretion and in whatever proportion they deem appropriate. The decisions of the judges are final and binding.

Prizes

The winner will receive 3,500 Pula. The winner will be listed on the Bea Bond website and promoted via Bea Bond email and social media networks.

Two runners up will receive 1,000 Pula and 500 Pula respectively, they will also be included on the Bea Bond website.

Copyright

The winners artwork will be reproduced across a range of items including any (or all) of the following; printed fabric for a capsule children’s collection 100 pieces, jewellery pouches 1,000 pieces, greeting cards including postcards, wrapping paper and packaging 1,000 pieces, T-shirts 1,000 pieces. Bea Bond reserves the right to use the winners artwork in its totality, or part of it, depending on the medium and to adjust the colour, tone and hue as needed in line with production requirements. Bea Bond will own the copyright of the winners artwork (not the physical artwork).

OFFICIAL RULES

1. COMPETITION PERIOD

The competition opens on 1 September 2020 and closes on 31 October 2020. Qualifying entries (the “Entry” / “Entries”) must be received during this period via email to both arcbotswana@gmail.com and beabondworld@gmail.com. Please note that the dates of competition may be extended at the sole discretion of Bea Bond (the “Organiser”). The Organiser and its affiliates are not responsible for lost, misdirected, tapered with or undelivered entries. Entries submitted with incomplete or inaccurate information may be disqualified.

2. ENTRY STEPS

  • Read and understand the requirements and facts stated on Bea Bond Website.

  • Submit entries before deadline of 31 October 2020. There is no limit to the number of entries per person.

3. ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to professional, amateur and student artists (the “Entrant(s)”) living in Botswana over the age of 18 years old.

4. CONTENT GUIDELINES AND DISCLAIMERS

  • Entries must be submitted via email. There is no limit on the number of entries per person.

  • Any entry with incomplete, inaccurate or incomprehensible information may be disqualified at the sole discretion of The Organiser.

  • Entrants may submit work previously submitted to other competitions only if the work has not won any previous awards.

  • All artist submissions must be sent via email as a photograph, JPEG or PDF (we recommend 3-4MB).

  • We will then contact artists directly for high resolution photographed and/or high resolution digital files in JPEG or PDF formats which can be sent via “wetransfer” (preferably 300dpi)

  • All work must be the Entrant’s wholly original creation

  • All works will be judged on the following B.E.A criteria

  • Essence: Does it take inspiration from Botswana?

5. JUDGING, FINALIST SELECTION, AND NOTIFICATION

The Organiser, at its sole discretion, will select a panel of qualified judges, which will examine and review all entries based on the criteria written below, and will thus determine a shortlist of 3 artworks.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

The 3 shortlisted artworks will be selected by mid-November 2020. Notification will take place by email. The Organiser reserves the right to extend the above deadline at its sole discretion.

In the event that the Organiser is unable to contact an entrant due to inaccurate, changed, or incomplete contact information, any prizes will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected. Further, if any potential entrant is found to be ineligible, or not to be in compliance with the Official Rules, he or she may be disqualified and an alternate entrant may be selected. Neither the Organiser nor any of its affiliates shall be held liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify a potential winner.

7. WINNERS LIST

The names of the winner(s) will be posted on the Bea Bond website by the end of January 2021. The Organiser, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to extend the deadline.
